a recent estate sale find..

a very curious and no doubt QUITE SCARCE piece of vintage 1970's Silicon Valley paper ephemera.

A promotional poster for ComputerLand stores printed in 1977. A simple design with a very 70's font and layout describing basic microcomputer terminology. This is very early on in the corporate history of ComputerLand, having only changed their name from Computer Shack in June of that year. The first store opened in Hayward California in December of1976 By the time this poster was made there can't have been but a few franchise shops open.

The store was the brainchild of William H. Millard. A couple years earlier he founded IMS Associates, Inc. and introduced the IMSAI 8080 which has been claimed to be the first fully integrated personal computers. His experiences trying to market this computer led him to the idea of starting a franchise operation . He started it with Ed Faber an ex-IBM manager in 1976 around the same time the Byte Shop started to sell the first few Apple II computers. they revolutionized the industry and by 1985 had 800 locations.

The poster measures 29" x 23".

over all good condition. no tack holes. some creases, two small closed tears towards bottom left and top right corners and faint rippled discoloration on bottom left edge. once properly framed these slight flaws won't be noticeable, still, a VERY ATTRACTIVE PROMOTIONAL POSTER. please examine photos closely and ask any questions you may have.
