Up for sale is a real time capsule piece if you're into vintage early Macintosh G3 and G4 computers. An external USB 1.1 analog video capture device with its original VideoImpression software package, cables, and box, sold through elite Mac accessory house OWC Other World Computing for 1990s era pre-OS X systems running System 8.6 or later. 800 x 600 capture in 16-bit color with 16-bit sound, requiring only 32MB of RAM and 15MB of disk space. This is the kind of early consumer video kit that countless pre-YouTube creators used to cut their teeth on classic beige and Bondi-era machines.

If you've ever been interested in firing up some pretty cool early creative video capture software on your classic G3 or G4 Mac, this is the setup.

Included is the external USB 1.1 analog video capture device, original software CD-ROM, instruction materials, and the analog video and audio cables you see here. The instruction book is bonded to the inside of the front Velcro flap of the box.

This package was sold by OWC Other World Computing, one of the elite Mac accessory houses of the 1990s, catering to serious Mac users upgrading and expanding their systems in the pre-OS X era.

The back of the package pretty much says it all, showing Power Mac G3 and G4 systems, clamshell iBooks, and the colorful early iMac era machines. This was built for early Macs running pre-OS X system software 8.6 or later.

This is the prehistoric version, one of the very first products offered to capture analog video from camcorders into a Mac. Him and probably many other artists of the 1990s-early 2000's got their start cutting their teeth with software setups like this, making short films and early web clips long before YouTube ever existed.

I am not fully certain of all features and output capabilities, so please study the packaging and photos carefully to understand exactly what this setup offers and to confirm compatibility with your system.

This is an interesting collectible for anyone restoring or preserving early Apple hardware, or for those looking to recreate that vintage analog capture look from camcorders and early digital workflows.

Condition

The CD-ROM appears to be in great shape with no notable scratches. Included cables are in good condition. The USB capture device itself looks clean overall, with only light dust. The outer box has some tattering and wear on the flaps, but from what I can see, most or all of the original packaging is included. Untested and sold as a vintage software and hardware kit.
